One of the cool things about Tabletop RPGs for me is getting to draw my interpretation of the myriad of original characters, places and events that form up our games. My current character in our 13th Age game (fantasy very much like D&D) is Thrail, a dwarf fighter who was recently risen from the dead when he fell during part of the titanic Battle of Light and Darkness. Raised by the Lich Princess herself, he pledged himself to her and her destiny. Now the Herald of Yenia he has been reborn as a multi-class Cleric/Necromancer wielding great power over undead.

I set out to capture this new version of Thrail, Undead Herald of Yenia in a digital painting. We can see the Lich Princess’ aesthetic of the pink with bows that he now wears proudly as well as his bone tentacle – a hangover from his past as a ‘tentacle dwarf’ from the taint he suffered in Chillhearth Mountain. Here is the pic and some shots of various stages before the final…

Oh and here is a pic from Heroforge of what I am thinking of getting printed for him. I would still need to add the bone tentacle but the rest is pretty darn cool.
