A few days ago we got an update to the CryEngine to v3.3.9 on Crydev.net which brought a bunch of enhancements and fixes. Some of the key features additions include these babies below (read the full release for all the details)

  • DX9 Parallax Occlusion Mapping (POM)
  • DX9 Screen-Space Directional Occlusion (SSDO)
  • DX9 Particle Global Illumination (GI)
  • New “Very High” graphics configuration
  • Added Scaleform support (v3.9.93)

The SSDO thread has some nice examples of the Screen Space Directional Occlusion.

There are some nice improvements in the Forest level for us to play with for a start – will have to explore more in the next few days.
